Achieving effective flow generation is the
goal. Using the most appropriate impeller selection process to achieve
the highest possible process side results is the key to achieving that
goal. This guide is meant to help you choose the very best Mixing Solutions
impeller for your application and your process needs. Not insignificantly,
it is also one of the ways in which Mixing Solutions shares it expertise
with you and demystifies the impeller selection process.
Efficiency is, of course, your primary criteria
in choosing an impeller type. However, power number is also important.
Lower power number impellers must be larger in diameter than higher power
numbers for a given motor horsepower and impeller speed. Although low
power number impellers are generally the most efficient, if the impeller
diameter exceeds 40-50% of vessel diameter, pumping capacity falls off
sharply. Usually for high-power, high-intensity mix-ing requirements a
higher power number impeller must be selected in order to reduce impeller
diameter.
Flow rate and direction are also critical factors
to consider. For most applications, axial flow will produce the best mixing
action and will result in the highest impeller effi-ciency. Occasionally,
however, radial flow is desirable to break up plug flow, provide high
wall velocity, or provide high shear for dispersion applications.
By keeping these criteria in mind, and letting
them guide you accordingly, you will be far ahead in selecting the best
impeller design for your needs.
To establish and properly analyse impeller
efficiency, power number, flow rate and direction, you will want to talk
to us directly. Our superior staff of factory application engineers and
field sales engineers can analyse your mixing requirements and recommend
the best selection to achieve your goals.
Sometimes a computer simulation or laboratory
test is required. Our complete lab is world famous. It is the largest
in the world, and is fully equipped with the most advanced technology
available, including a state-of-the-art Dantec, which is a fiber optics
laser-Doppler fluid velocity measurement system that is capable of a complete
flow analysis of any impeller or combination of impellers.
Mixing Solutions also specialises in small-scale
testing of customers' samples, with guaranteed scale-up or results to
full size. Regardless of the complexity of the problem, regardless of
the application, and regardless of the process results you want to achieve,
Mixing Solutions has the right impeller for the job.
