Testing
Scale model testing is an important part of any absorber mixer design
and often a contractual requirement. At Mixing Solutions we can test your
slurry in a number of different test tanks to determine the proper scale-up
correlation for your exact slurry. Multiple mixer locations and impeller
angle of attack are confirmed both with and without air flow and recirculation.
Wetted Parts
Depending upon the process, a variety of stainless steels or nickel-based
alloys may be suitable for use. Statistical analysis of extensive corrosion
experiments in sea water had yielded the following expression for pitting
resistance:

Design
Philosophy
The design of the mixer and the selection of materials are based on the
process specification submitted by the end user. The practice of FGD plants
and our extensive world-wide experience show that the main corrosion factors
(pH and chloride concentration) often exceed those specified and catastrophic
failure may occur. At Mixing Solutions we are using an innovative design
approach to increase the safety margin while maintaining a competitive
price.
Complete Range - Top
and Side
Mixing Solutions offers a complete line of mixers for the FGD Industry.
From the smallest sump to the largest Lime Slurry Tank we can provide
the size and configuration of mixer to achieve your plant’s required
process result.
Side Entry Mixers
Our SM and TM models are available up to medium powers. For higher HP
and torque requirements, our newer design Model GSM will meet your needs.
Both have 100,000 B-10 bearing life. With the current trend for larger
absorber towers, the double reduction GSM will provide the required torque
level at lower power levels and tip speeds. Couple this with a high efficiency
Mixing Solutions LS hydrofoil and significant power savings can be realised.
SM, TM and GSM are available with an unflushed mechanical seal as standard.
Agitator parts can be alloy or coated carbon steel.
Seals
One crucial part of the mixer is the mechanical seal. The modern purpose
designed FGD seal is a single acting balanced mechanical seal. It was
specifically developed for service in abrasive and chemically aggressive
media. No buffer or flushing system is required for safe operation. Seal
faces are made of silicon carbide and all wetted parts are super duplex
stainless steel. The bearing is located close to the seal faces in order
to reduce runout and increase seal life. The seal incorporates the unique
MSL Metal to Metal shut-off device which enables an easy cartridge replacement
without tank drainage.
Top Entry Mixers
Mixing Solutions offers a full line of top entry mixers. We manufacture
all of our own gear drives in accordance with the latest AGMA standards.
In both our all helical model PVE or our spiral
bevel model 3800, you get proven designs with all of the mechanical reliability
you expect. Gearing is AGMA Quality ten (10) or better per current AGMA
Standards, B-10 bearing lives will exceed 100,000 hours, and operating
noise levels are well within current standard occupational noise standards
and AGMA Standard 297.01.
Process Technology
Just as important as getting the highest quality mixers in the industry,
you will also be receiving the process experience of thousands of successful
mixer installations, lab and testing capabilities, impeller designs and
Engineering and Manufacturing expertise. Because of this, we are able
to warrant each mixer to perform its intended function.
The highly efficient Mixing Solutions FGD Propellers
and LS Hydrofoil provides the high flow and low shear necessary to suspend
abrasive solids and, where necessary disperse oxidation air. Various oxidation
injection methods are available dependent on the process requirements
and the absorber layout.
Coal Slurry Mixing
Mixing Solutions also mix the source of the SO2. The largest mixers ever
built control the surge capacity between the pipeline and the power plant
at Mohave Generating Station. These 34-foot diameter impellers have been
suspending 40% coal slurry in four 6-million gallon tanks for over 20
years.
